My name is Sarah Zarba. I’m an advocate and freedom fighting social worker based in New York City.

I’m currently available for public speaking and consulting engagements.

I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different than my own.

I am a licensed therapist, organizer, intersectional feminist and unrelentless advocate for social justice. I have over 10+ years of public service experience working with female-identified people in different contexts, across a broad range of issue areas. Therapy helped me transform my own life, and my passion for social work is driven in part by my personal experiences with healing.

Prior to becoming a social worker, I worked at a national non-profit on a project focused on ending the incarceration of girls. Through this work, I studied the role that gender plays in the criminalization of young people and realized a critical need for increased access to gender-affirming, culturally aware services that offer support rather than punishment. As a natural next step, I transitioned to working for a NYC government agency where I implemented city-wide programs serving women and children.

In addition to policy and research experience, I have worked as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Use Counselor (CASAC) supporting women through the process of regaining control of their lives after addiction.

Presently, I work on bail advocacy for a public defender agency. I am also a student at CUNY School of Law. In my professional role, I have the privilege of working with incredible women who are survivors of significant trauma, and advocate fiercely for their release from Riker’s Island. This is the most important work I’ve ever done, and I will never stop fighting until we #FreeThemAll.
